Easy to assemble
They are small and simple to set up, so they can be placed close to your bed. They also tend to be lighter, making them more mobile. Georgina one of our MFM home testers, was extremely pleased with the Maxi-Cosi Lora for being "super straightforward to construct, with clear instructions and easy zips." This crib can be used as a travel crib and comes with a handy bag. It comes with multiple mesh openings for ventilation and its height-adjustable allows it to fit on any mattress.
Some bedside cribs have the option of a side panel that could be lowered, giving you easy access to your baby without having to step out of bed. This is a great option for breastfeeding mums or those who wish to be with their baby throughout the night, but don't want to risk co-sleeping (which is associated to a higher risk of SIDS).
Many models come with built-in rocking functions. This can be very relaxing for your baby and aids in falling asleep. If you're seeking something smaller, Tutti Bambini CoZee offers oak legs with a variety of fabrics that complement your decor. It's also incredibly simple to put together. Georgina who took part in the MFM test was capable of putting it together quickly and without needing to consult any instructions. It's also a great travel cot, folding down flat and slipping into a convenient bag.
The Next2me Magic, which was shortlisted for the Best Cot, Crib or Moses Basket at the 2021 Mother&Baby Awards, is also slightly larger than the average, but is still relatively compact and easy to fit to your bed. Georgina also found it easy to set up, though she felt the instructions could have been clearer about the zips.
Easy to clean
Find cribs with mattress covers which can be washed in the machine when looking at cribs for bed or travel cots. This will keep it clean and free of dribbles, spit-up, and leaky diapers. It is also recommended to choose a model that is easily disassembled, allowing you to clean and sanitise all the corners.
This is crucial, as it will ensure that all germs and dirt have been removed. Also, you should ensure that the crib's sides are securely secured, ensuring that there aren't any gaps or spaces that your child could slide down or become trapped.
In addition to being easy to clean, you'll want an infant crib that is a comfortable place for your baby and will fit comfortably into your bed. This is particularly crucial if you're using a bedside crib for co-sleeping. They are designed to fit securely to the side of the parent's bed, allowing parents to easily reach their infant throughout the night for feeding and comforting while still ensuring separate sleeping surfaces.
Another thing to consider when selecting a crib for your bed is whether it has any additional features that you may consider useful.
